Roundup – Week 2 of 2012

This was the week in which I pulled my emergency brake.  I did not go back to the pool after TOM left.  My feet swelled up again.  I went to bed late every night.  I allowed myself to be sucked into every drama and operated from a lack-perspective instead of a place of abundance.  It wore me out – physically and emotionally.

To understand the emergency brake reference, you’ll have to watch this excellent TEDxSF video (embedded).

I saw this video on Naturally Curvy and it stopped me from crucifying myself for being a failure.  I realized that I hadn’t committed a mortal sin – I had just slipped back into the old, familiar groove.

And I know I can get out of that again.

And again.

As many times as I need to.

Even when I don’t feel like it.  Which, as the video explains, is natural.

It wasn’t all bad though.  I continued to use the stairs at work.  I ate better.  I did my affirmations.  And I’m being accountable.

This was also the week that someone maxed out my credit card with online purchases.  Yup, I got defrauded.  I’ll get my money back, but I suspect that this contributed greatly to my slide into victim-mode.  I’m pleased that I can see the connection.

If you choose to be aware, even a few steps backwards can count as progress.

I will do better in the week to come.

Books read this week:

  • The Dark River – John Twelve Hawks (not as good as the first book in the series – The Traveler)
  • Silent Predator – Tony Park  (a new-to-me author – great read!)
  • The Redeemer – Jo Nesbo (Nesbo never disappoints)
  • Safari – Tony Park
  • Black Ice – Michael Connelly

Movies seen this week:

  • Ides of March – excellent!

How was your week?

As you SEE and are able to turn around behaviors, things will even out (in my opinion). Your turn around time will get shorter and shorter and you will stay more even, pointed forward, and dependable to yourself in your habits. Very good post.

  2. That is exactly what I needed to hear!! Thank you! I love the way she explains it and how the word “force” is used in a way that doesn’t turn me off LOL!

You and I have had the exact same week, I think. Last week, I started an awesome kick, and then this week … I just stopped.

ALSO, someone in the UK charged up my debit card. Argh.

The important thing, as you know, is to recognize what’s going on, and work to make it different. It really is true that old habits die hard, so we have to work to implant those new, healthy habits in our lives.

Put on the emergency brake. Oh my, a whole new perspective on force. Thanks for sharing the video. Very powerful. I had a good week, am moving forward and trying to integrate some healthier habits back into my life. Doing my best to move everyday again, even if it just means stretching. Thanks for this post.

Hanlie when I met Ali Vincent in person she told me even though she was the first female biggest loser that she to had bad days. She said that we just need to make a difference in the next minute. She said instead of beating ourselves up or waiting until monday just choose the next minute to do better. I have loved that! You are so strong and determined I know you will not let this stop you! :)

Thank you so much for the video. 1 in 400 trillion, really makes you think

  7. Jaime says:

I’m glad you found the video useful. Every time I even hint at thinking, ‘just five more minutes’ when I turn off my alarm, I counter with: “You are NOT fine.” It never fails to get me out of bed.

Thank you for this, Hanlie. I needed to see this, as it’s going to be a particularly harsh week for me. I use the word ‘fine’ all of the time. Won’t be able to look at that word in the same way again.
